
Miss Engdahl selected for 2023 Indiana Educator Fellowship for Creative Teachers

my name is Josie angal and I'm a fourth grade teacher at Meadows Edge Elementary [Music] School I applied for a fellowship with the Indiana Arts commission and I was one of 20 people in the state of Indiana that was accepted into this Fellowship I partnered with the Southbend Museum of Art we were able to plan out8 weeks of lessons that tied in our science curriculum to different art activities that our students were able to do we started out the year by doing a lot of drawing so like students were learning

different line movements and then they got to use sculpture and they learned how to mold the sculptures and then they created pinch pots when we went to the museum for a field trip they got to paint their pinch pots that they had created our classes split into like three or four different groups I would say and they each had their own guided tour and they would go to different paintings they were really analyzing um like the movement of the paintings and how they compareed to each other so there was this one where they had three

pieces of cloth lined up with each other the artist here is kind of showing you this tunnel going in oh and that was who said optical illusion kind of an optical yeah it's just been a really great experience and I'm glad that my students got to do it I learned a lot about myself and they were all able to express themselves in different ways it was really cool to see their pinch pods especially I had one kid make a candle holder and then another one made like a bowl for eating cereal so it was very

November 15th was Sculpture Part II; students reviewed mudstone and continue learning about different clay molding techniques and created an abstract sculpture.
